SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Residents of Shiberghan, the capital of northern Jawzjan province, say the ring road of the city, work on which began eight years ago, could not be completed so far.

Shiberghan people claimed that it has been almost a decade since the road project started, but so far three kilometers of the road could only be completed so far.

Hait Murad Yuldash, a resident of Eid Mahala village of Shiberghan, talking to Pajhwok Afghan News, said, “When work on the ring road in Shiberghan started eight years ago, we were so happy, but our dreams ruined and the project did not complete in eight years.”

He said, “Many people sacrificed their houses and gardens for the road’s map, we hoped officials would not mount more pain on people this time and would finish the work on the road.”

He added that people living on both sides of the road were affected by pollution raised from the dusty road and they were disheartened over the continued negligence of the government.

Abdul Ghafoor, a resident of Yaka Bagh village in Shiberghan city, also complained about the incompletion of the road, saying, “We travel on this road every day and we suffer more than other people due to the bad condition of the route.”

People show not interest to travel on this road and patients can hardly be transferred by cars on the route due to its dilapidated condition, he said. “We hope the current government would start work on this project and put end to this problem,” he said.

Mohammad Mujahid, Jawzjan governor’s house director, said, “Construction work on the ring road of Shiberghan was delayed due to the escape of the contracted company’s head.”

The road — 15 kilometers long and 60 meters wide — would cost 1.3 billion afghanis, he said. “This road should have been completed years ago, but it was delayed due to the road’s graveling by former officials and slow paced work by the construction company at that time,’ he added.

Mujahid said that they would contact the officials of the Ministry of Public Works to take action about the implementation of the project and allocate required budget for it.

Construction work on the ring road in Shiberghan city was started in 2014, but it yet to be completed due to various challenges and slow paced work.
