KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban government has dissolved five key departments, including the Afghanistan Human Rights Commission.

A spokesman for the government, faced with severe financial constraints, said the institutions disbanded were unnecessary.

Reuters quoted Inamullah Samangani, the government’s deputy spokesman, as saying: “Because these departments were not deemed necessary and were not included in the budget, they have been dissolved.”

On Saturday, the Taliban presented their first-ever annual budget, including a deficit of $500 million.

The High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR), the National Security Council and the commission for overseeing the implementation of the constitution were also dissolved.

Based on objective facts, the budget was meant only for departments that had been active and productive, the deputy spokesman said.
