QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Residents of northwestern Badghis province complain that dilapidated roads that connect districts with Qala-i-Naw, the provincial capital, are a bane of their life.
Syed Mohammad, a resident of Jawand district, said critical patients lost their lives before reaching the hospital due to the dilapidated condition of the district road leading to the provincial capital.
He said Jawand district centre was 160 kilometers away from Qala-i-Naw and they spent 10 hours reaching the provincial capital due to the shabby condition of the road.
“We want the government to serve the people, work on roads and pathways and resolve the problems faced by people,” he said.
Ghulam Sakhi, a resident of Qadis district, said due to the lack of attention the road leading to Qala-i-Naw had deteriorated and it needed reconstruction.
“The roads are in bad condition, we want the government to address this issue. Due to the dilapidated condition of roads, vehicles reach their destinations very late and sometimes patients are lost on the way to the hospital,” he said.
Badghis Roads Protection and Maintenance Head Mawlavi Abdul RahmanWaseeq confirmed some roads in the province needed reconstruction, which would be rehabilitated.
He added rehabilitation work on roads to BalaMurghab, Qurmach and Qadis districts was underway.
“Our work continues all the time. Very soon we will start work in some other areas,” he said.
