UNICEF to set up 5,000 local classes in Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United National International Children’s Emergency Fund says it wants to set up 5,000 local classes in Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) said UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Hannan Sulieman and the delegation accompanying her met Maulvi Noorullah Munir, the minister of education.

In a statement, the ministry said Hannan Sulieman reiterated UNICEF’s support for promoting education in Afghanistan. She said the world body currently had nearly 9,000 local classes.

She said UNICEF planned to establish 5,000 more such classes in Afghanistan.

Munir hailed UNICEF efforts in the education sector of Afghanistan and hailed all fundamental programmes, especially the local schooling initiative, as fruitful.

He said the ministry was working with UNICEF to improve the quality, quantity and strengthening of such classes.
