KABUL (Pajhwok): Dozens of gynaecologists and obstetricians have participated in a symposium on problems in their departments and shared their knowledge and experiences.
The two-day event was organised in Kabul by the Association of Obstetrician of Afghanistan. About 200 doctors from the capital and provinces participated in the symposium.
Najm-ul-Sama Shafajo, director of the association, said: “The objective behind the symposium was to increase the capacity of doctors and control mortality rates.”
The participants shared their scientific knowledge and experiences, she said, calling the low salaries, and lack of learning programs the main problems in doctors’ capacity building.
Zarmina Hassan, an obstetrician from Nangarhar, told Pajhwok: “We came here to enhance our capacity. We had separate classes here and talked about our problems.”
She added: “We are facing problems in in the province where we do not have a maternity hospital. There are many patients but we are facing a shortage of beds. Holding such conferences will be very useful.”
