Sport gymnasium opens in Kandahar City

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A sports gymnasium has been inaugurated in Kandahar City, capital of southern Kandahar province, an official said.

Opened on Monday night, the facility had a capacity of 2,000 spectators, Sports Director Maulvi Mohammad Ibrar told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Work on this gymnasium, launched two years ago, was recently completed. The facility has been built at a cost of 50 million afs provided by an NGO.

“Previously, we did not have this type of facility in Kandahar City. Sportspeople could play round the clock in this gymnasium,” the director said.

He added 23 sports federations were functional in Kandahar City, where 11,000 players were registered.

Efforts are ongoing to provide more facilities for athletes in the province, the official concluded.
