Most cash-starved Takhar media outlets stop functioning

TALOQAN CITY (Pajhwok): Only four out of the total 17 media organizations remain operational in northern Takhar province, according media outlets officials on Thursday.

Most of media originations owners complained about their deteriorated financial condition during a press conference arranged by the Afghanistan Independent Journalists Association.

Barleek Radio Television Head Ramazan Batour said after the regime change, most media outlets plunged into financial crisis.

He warned if media support organizations did not help them in the renewal of their frequency licenses, payment of taxes, rent, electricity bills and other expenditures all media outlets would stop functioning.

Mohammad Yasin Joya, representative of AIJA, said they always strived to support media outlets based on the principle of neutrality.

Takhar Information Director Ansarullah Ansari said media played a vital role in the development of the country and assured that government fully supported media and journalists.
