MAZAR-i-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Tens of women in northern Balkh province have supported compliance with the hijab decree, calling it an Islamic order.
Addressing a gathering here, Muslima Mohammadi, one of the speakers, argued hijab was necessary to protect the family system.
She noted the use of veil by women and girls helped prevent unfortunate incidents from happening in society.
Mohammadi said most women in the country violated the Islamic hijab and the main factor behind this violation was the influence of western culture.
Zahra Haqqani, another speaker, said Islam valued the use of hijab and women should comply with Islamic teachings in this regard.
The Ministry of Vice and Virtue recently unveiled a detailed strategy regarding the enforcement of hijab.
The ministry stressed a woman’s body, barring her eyes, should be covered with a chadori. The veil should not be thin, tight or revealing.
