PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Education Department in central Logar province says it will hire 847 new teachers to resolve the issue of staff shortage.
Shahpur Arab, spokesman for the department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the appointments had been approved in a fresh step to address teachers’ shortage in 276 schools for boys and girls.
He assured the teachers would soon take charge in the capital and different districts of the province after a transparent test.
Of 5,224 formal teaching positions, about 1,019 are vacant. The vacancies would be filled soon through an open competition.
Rafiullah, a teacher in Mohammad Agha district, told Pajhwok: “New appointments will solve the shortage teachers on the one hand and will help educated people find jobs on the other.”
He stressed the appointment must be based on an open and transparent competition.
Nasrullah, a teacher in Pul-i-Alam, believed the vacancies were not enough for Logar, where many university graduates were jobless.
However, the UN has facilitated local classrooms through UNICEF and IRC for 5,000 children in Pul-i-Alam, Mohammad Agha, Baraki Barak and Kharwar.
