KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents of southeastern Khost province have asked the government to ensure the protection and maintenance of historical sites.
Following the regime change last year, they noted, the protection and preservation of the ancient sites had been ignored in different parts of the province.
In Khost, over 20 historical sites have been registered. Some of them, like Shamal Hasan Kot Shah, Ismael’s tomb and shrine had been rehabilitated.
However, no decision on the rehabilitation of the remaining sites has been taken so far.
Zahid Khan, a resident of the province, underlined the need for the rehabilitation and protection of such sites.
“Historical places play a key role in the development of human beings and it is compulsory for the government to ensure their protection.”
Ashrafullah, another resident, said like in other parts of the country, Khost’s historical sites were being damaged.
He urged the government to pay due attention to the protection and maintenance of historical sites in the province.
Information and Culture Director Shabir Ahmad Usmani said the Khost police headquarters was setting up a special force to protect historical sites.
He vowed nobody would be allowed to harm the sites in Khost, which also has several ancient monuments.
