FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Watermelon has been cultivated on 15,268 hectares of land in western Farah province amid high yield expectations, an official said on Sunday.
Agriculture official Mullah Abdul Ghani Abid, in an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, said the fruit had been cultivated on 15,268 hectares of land in Shibkoh, Pushtkoh and Pushtrod districts.
He said up to 500,000 tonnes of watermelon had been collected so far during the current season.
Mohammad Umar, a resident of Degfarosh area, said this year watermelon production was good. “This year, per seven kilograms of watermelon accounts for 50 to 80 afs,” he added.
Farah is one of the provinces where the frwsh summer fruit is produced at a large scale and transported to other part of the country.
