KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Wednesday unveiled a new police uniform, calling it important for discipline and controlling crimes.
In the previous government, the police uniform was raw green, with a tricolor flag on one arm and the Interior Ministry emblem on the other, but the color of the new uniform is brown, with a white flag on one arm and the Interior Ministry’s sign on the other.
In this regard, MoI spokesman Abdul Nafee Takor told a meeting that the issue of police uniform was an important priority for the MoI leadership.
He said following efforts of the ministry and approval of the supreme leader, they were able to select a special uniform.
He said that the color of the uniform had been chosen keeping in view the natural climate of Afghanistan and its sewing and supply was done by an Afghan company.
Without elaborating, he said that the uniform was made at 75 percent cheaper price than the previous one.
According to him, 20,000 new uniforms have been prepared and their distribution will start from today in Kabul and Kandahar provinces.
He said that in the next two weeks, the number would increase to 100,000 uniforms and would be distributed in other provinces.
Deputy Interior Minister Noor Jalal Jalali also spoke at today's meeting, calling the uniform effective in ensuring public safety.
He believed the police uniform would help reduce crimes like robberies and theft in Kabul and provinces.
He said those who do not use the uniform or abuse it will be dealt with legally.
Since the regime change in August, police have been wearing different uniforms.
The new uniform is introduced at a time when people were demanding special uniforms for the security forces.
