Fees cut for Afghan students in KP medical colleges

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to reduce fees for Afghan students enrolled in public-sector medical and dental colleges.

The decision has been taken in light of a recent meeting between KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ziaul Haq and senior officials of the Afghan Consulate in Peshawar, The News reported on Saturday.

The provincial government has now directed KMU to charge the Afghans Rs50,000 each (the amount paid by Pakistani students) instead of Rs800,000.

Prof Haq commended the Health Department’s decision on slashing the fees of Afghan students. It would provide opportunities for Afghan students to continue their education here, he hoped.

Thousands of Afghan students are currently studying in different Pakistani educational institutions. He said the fee cut was in addition to concessions under scholarships worth millions of rupees.
