KABUL (Pajhwok): Eight militants, including a notorious commander, have been killed in the capital of northern Takhar province, an official said on Sunday.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the government spokesman, tweeted: “During a special operation by General Directorate of Intelligence in Taloqan, eight insurgents were killed.”
Key rebel commander Yunus Uzbekistani was among the dead, Mujahid said, claiming a militant hideout was destroyed in Saturday’s raid.
Police spokesman Abdul Mubin Safi confirmed the operation and fatalities. He said three fighters were wounded during the operation in Taloqan.
Meanwhile, area residents said security forces had also suffered casualties. However, officials remained tight-lipped on casualties among the security personnel.
