KABUL (Pajhwok): Just 1,500 afghanis were spent on a wedding ceremony in the capital Kabul, with the newly-wed couple urging the youth to refrain from unnecessary spending to promote the culture of austerity.
Anab Baigzad and JawharMahAhmadi from the Khader district of central Daikundi province tied the knot at one of Kabul’s hotels two days back.
They currently live in a rented room in the Dasht-i-Barchi area of Kabul. Their living facility even lacked basic facilities for living.
The couple who did not wear new clothes for their wedding ceremony welcomed guests with cakes, biscuits and fresh juice and their total wedding spending cost 1,500 afs and they were happy.
They said the culture of little spending, they introduced, may have a positive impact in society and would help promote the culture of austerity.
They said: “We want other young people to be able to start a family at a low cost and start a new life and be happy; Exorbitant wedding expenses should be avoided, you can spend your money to continue living.”
Jawhar Mah Ahmadi, sitting next to her husband, said: “I am very happy, it was my childhood dream that came true; I feel good, I dreamed of doing something positive in my life and being a role model for girls and my community.”
