MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Pajhwok Afghan News report over non-functional traffic signals forced relevant authorities to make the signs functional.
On May 17, Pajhwok published a report that the traffic signs were installed in Balkh for traffic management about 15 years ago, but most of them became defective and it often led to chaos and accidents.
However, Qari Mahmood, admin of the Mazar-i-Sharif municipality, told Pajhwok that traffic signs had been installed in 19 police districts of the city.
He said they had reactivated the traffic signals of the four key places (Kart-i-Sulh, Samim Sancharaki Street, Chaniforoch, and Fatima Balkhi school) and the remaining 15 would be reactivated soon.
On the other hand, the inhabitants of Mazar-i-Sharif are pleased with the reactivation of these signals.
Ahmad Javed, a taxi driver in Mazar-i-Sharif, hailed the efforts of the municipality and told Pajhwok that the out-of-order signs used to cause chaos and traffic accidents.
He added if the traffic signs were kept active the traffic congestion would be averted.
