PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The education department of central Logar province says teachers and students of Zara Qala High School in the Baraki Barak district have constructed five classrooms using their own money.
Shahpoor Arab, a spokesman for the provincial education department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the construction of the classrooms cost around 350,000 afghanis, which had been voluntarily donated by the families of teachers and students.
He added that previously about 250 students of the high school were studying under torn tents. But with the construction of the five rooms, they will now be able to study in a suitable environment.
Arab said the education department appreciated the work of the people of Baraki Barak district and called on businessmen and other leaders to build buildings for schools in their districts and villages where students do not have classrooms and study in the open.
Residents of Logar also praised the students and teachers of Zara Qala High School for constructing the classrooms at their own expense.
Barat Khan, a resident of Baraki Barak district, told Pajhwok Afghan News this culture should be extended to all districts and villages of Logar and all should contribute to the welfare of the people.
He added that most of the districts in the province do not have school buildings and their students are studying in the open.
He also asked the Ministry of Education to continue the policy of the previous system of construction of school buildings and complete buildings of schools which could not be completed in the previous system.
In Logar, some charities have already set up classrooms in school and have also provided much-needed assistance to schools and students.
