KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of southeastern Khost province have called for the removal of curbs on people’s movement via the Ghulam Khan crossing.

They recall in the past 50 to 70 patients were allowed to enter Pakistan daily for medical treatment. But these days, the number has fallen to 10.

Ali Marjan, a resident of Khost whose wife is suffering from cancer, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “I have been visiting Ghulam Khan for the past five days. However, I have been unable to enter Pakistan.”

He alleged seven or eight individuals, having the right connections, were allowed to take their patients to Pakistan. But he is not allowed while his spouse remains on ventilator.

An elder, Mohammad Hussain who is suffering from cardiac issues, said: “The doctor has advised me to go to Pakistan for treatment. But when I come here to enter Pakistan, officials let a small number of people into Pakistan. I have been stuck here for five days.”

He added many cancer and heart patients came to the crossing on a daily basis but few were afforded the chance to enter the neighbouring country.

On the other hand, the commissariat officials said they had contacted the Pakistani side for a solution to the problem. They have promised to address the issue.

Pajhwok shared the issue with Pakistani officials, who are yet to respond to public complaints.
