Love labour: Journalist teaching IDP children for free

NEILI (Pajhwok): Anisa Najafi, a female journalist from central Daikundi province, is teaching displaced children for free at a public school that she has prevented from closure.

Najafi formerly worked for a media outlet in Daikundi. At present, she is jobless. For a month now, she has been teaching voluntarily at a school where displaced children are enrolled.

A woman of merit and initiative, she made the decision to teach at a time when some classes were going to be closed due to a shortage of teachers. However, she prevented the school from shutting down.

The Darukhshan Primary School” is located in the refuge town of Neili. The children studying here have been displaced to the provincial capital from other provinces, districts and areas.

Najafi, who is teaching third graders, told Pajhwok Afghan News, she willingly cooperated with her colleagues in case of need.

Evincing a lot of interest and enthusiasm in her job, she does not expect salary or other perks in return for her services.

“Residents of the refugee town are families displaced by conflict, unemployment and poverty. Many have also come here from Iran.”

She claimed her students were equipped with remarkable study passion and resilience. Her students, performing well, are undeterred by difficulties.

Hadi, one of her students, voiced satisfaction with Najafi’s outstanding teaching skills. He urged education officials to hire more teachers and construct a building for the school.,

Just like the student, the school management is also happy with initiative taken by the former journalist. She has won encomium from her colleagues and students of the school.

Principal Ainullah Haidar said the school had been functional for three years, but it is yet to have a building. As a result, students are being taught in a rented house.

He confirmed they planned to close some classes due to lack of teachers but Najafi helped sort out the problem. At the moment, the school has 160 students, six classrooms and four teachers.
