KABUL (Pajhwok): United Nations relief chief Martin Griffiths says the world body has released $10 million to held quake-hit people in Afghanistan.
More than 1,000 people were killed and over 1,500 others injured in Paktika and Khost provinces, where thousands of houses were reduced to rubble by Wednesday’s earthquake.
Martin Griffiths tweeted: “Hundreds of people killed, many more injured. Homes were destroyed, and children were buried in the rubble. The Afghanistan earthquake is the largest tragedy to befall the country.”
He added: “I released $10 million from UNICEFR to help with the immediate response.”
