KABUL (Pajhwok): Japan has announced three million US dollars grant for the earthquake victims of Afghanistan, the country’s embassy said on Tuesday.
The 6.1 magnitude earthquake killed more than 1000 people and injured another 3500 on Wednesday and destroyed thousands of homes in Paktika and Khost provinces.
Besides emergency assistance to earthquake victims in Afghanistan, the Japanese government today released three million US dollars grant through the International Federation of Red Cross, the Japanese Embassy in Kabul wrote on its twitter page.
In addition to health and medical care, other humanitarian assistance will also be provided to the victims based on needs, the embassy said.
The Afghan government has announced 100000 afghanis for each dead and 50000 afghanis for each injured in the disaster.
The United Nations has pledged $10 million, Taiwan one million euros, EU one million euros, UK three million dollars and China $8.6 million with the quake-hit families.
Iran, Pakistan, India, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and a number of international organizations have provided and pledged assistance for the earthquake survivors.
