Japan pledges $14m in development aid to Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Japan has pledged $14 million for development in Afghanistan while Norway said it supported the call for the release of Afghan assets.

Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tweeted that acting foreign minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Japanese ambassador to Afghanistan Takashi Okada.

Muttaqi in the meeting with Okada said: “The whole world has the responsibility to reach out and support the new Afghan government in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, so we can rebuild the country after four decades of war.”

According to Takal, Muttaqi also met with Norwegian ambassador to Afghanistan Ole Andreas Lindeman in Doha. The Norwegian envoy said his country was in favor of releasing the Afghan assets.
