PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have killed a former retired military officer and tribal elder in Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of northern Baghlan province, an official said on Sunday.
A villager told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity that unidentified gunmen had killed a retired former government official and tribal elder, Sirajul Haq Hakimi, in Pul-i-Khumri on Saturday night.
He said the slain officer hailed from the Dahane Ghori district Charmgar village.
Hakimi had served in the military in the previous government but after retiring he remind a local tribal leader for several years.
Meanwhile, Mawlavi Sher Ahmad Burhan a spokesman for Baghlan police, told Pajhwok Afghan News that unidentified gunmen had killed a tribal elder in Pul-i-Khumri last night while he was on his way to home.
He assured that the police had launched an operation to nab the killers of the tribal elder.
Last month, a woman was killed by unknown gunmen Pul-i-Khumri.
