Blood donation campaign launched in Badakhshan

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The Provincial Hospital and Kherad Bawaran Social Welfare Foundation have launched a joint blood donation campaign for the needy people in northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said Monday.

Doctor Shafiqullah Hamdard, the director of the provincial hospital, at the inauguration ceremony of the blood donation campaign, said the campaign was launched to fulfill the need of blood in this Provincial Hospital and other health centers.

He encouraged people to donate blood and said a number of women lost their lives during childbirths because they needed blood.

Hamdard said the provincial hospital provided blood to 50 patients every month as relatives of patients sometimes were unable to pay for that or donate blood, so the hospital staff volunteer to donate blood.

Lady doctor GetiFarh, at the maternity ward said, there was always need for blood donation in the ward and if not found, the patients faced the danger of death.

Mitra, a blood donor, told Pajhwok Afghan News that she loved to donate blood, because it saved lives. She requested others to do so.
