PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A woman allegedly stabbed to death her husband’s eight-year-old sister in the Baraki Barak district of central Logar province and separately one person died due to lack of oxygen while digging a well in Charkh district.
Provincial police spokesman Ahmadullah Anas told Pajhwok Afghan News the eight-year-old girl was first strangulated and then axed to death by her brother’s wife in Charkala area of Baraki Barak district.
He said the accused woman had been arrested and currently being interrogated.
A relative of the slain girl, who did not want to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the woman had mental illness. She strangulated the girl and killed her, he said, confirming her arrest.
Such incidents have been on the increase lately due to poverty, domestic violence and other problems.
Separately, one person died and three others lost consciousness due to lack of oxygen while digging a deep well in Qala-i-Naw area of Charkh district.
Police spokesman Ahmadullah Anas told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place on Monday afternoon. A man digging a well died due to lack of oxygen in the well and three others who tried to rescue him also fainted.
He added that security personnel reached the spot and took the unconscious people to hospital for treatment and they were now in stable condition.
