SHARAN (Pajhwok): Sixty-six schools buildings in the Giyan, Barmal, Naka and Zerok districts of southeastern Paktika province have been demolished by recent earthquake, an official said.
Education Director MawlaviMerza Ali Khan Saeed told Pajhwok Afghan News besides the destruction of schools buildings, recent earthquake killed 76 students — 55 male and 21 female and injured 149 others — 118 male and 31 female in the Barmal and Giyan districts.
“In Giyan district education system could not resume due to the lack of resources but in other districts the education system resumed after the earthquake and currently exams are underway,” he said.
The residents of earthquake hit areas asked the government to reconstruct their schools and resume proper education system in the district.
Ahmadullah a student from the Barmal district, told Pajhwok Afghan News they were currently studying under trees after earthquake destroyed their school building.
He warned they will be the losers if proper education system was not resumed in the earthquake hit areas.
Education Director Mirza Ali Khan Saeed said special teams had been dispatched to the earthquake hit areas to observe the problems faced by the students.
He pledged to take immediate action after proper survey.
