NEILI (Pajhwok): About 20 people have died of cholera which is spreading fast in Nawa Ghari village on the border between Helmand and Daikundi provinces.

The Daikundi public health department has dispatched five health teams to the village to prevent the spread of the disease.

Mohammad Noori, a resident of Nawa Ghari village, told Pajhwok Afghan News the disease had so far killed 20 people and infected dozens more.

Meanwhile, Daikundi health officials also confirmed the outbreak.

Ishaq Hussaini, Daikundi’s deputy public health director, said: “The people who died of cholera are from Helmand province, but because part of Nawa Ghari village belongs to Daikundi, the disease is spreading Nawa Mesh district.”

He added based on numbers they had collected, more than 250 people in Nawa Ghari village in Nawa Mesh district had contracted the disease and were currently receiving treatment.
