QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Residents of northwestern Badghis province have been complaining about the municipality’s failure to implement the urban plan of Qala-i-Naw City, the provincial capital, in the past 20 years.
They say most of the roads, shops and homes have not been built in line with the master plan, damaging the beauty of the city.
Mohammad Arif Arman, a resident of Qala-i-Naw City, said the master plan of the city could not be implemented properly in the past 20 years by the previous administration.
“Powerful individuals in Qala-i-Naw do not remove their properties from illegal areas which are visible in the city and harmed its beauty,” he said.
Hafeezullah, another resident of Qala-i-Naw, said the implementation of the master plan is in need of urbanization but the previous government did not pay attention to this issue.
Acting Mayor MawlaviNazar Mohammad Waseeq said economic and financial problems did not allow them to implement the master plan.
He said people’s economic condition, drought, poverty and other social issues prevented them from implementing the master plan.
“The main issue is the economic one, we conveyed this to the centre and they issued direction to wait till next order,” he said.
