FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has traveled to northeastern Badakhshan province to assess the situation on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
Mahazuddin Ahmadi, director of information and culture, told Pajhwok Afghan News Muttaqi reached the province on Wednesday and met the governor and other officials.
Addressing a meeting at the governor’s house, he said: “People are worried about the recognition of the Islamic Emirate by the world. Our interaction with all countries is improving.”
He added 15 foreign embassies currently remained open in Kabul. By the same token, the minister said, Afghan missions were operational in other countries.
Muttaqi talked about challenges on the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. He called for addressing the problems through diplomatic channels.
The foreign minister also stressed the establishment of cordial relations among the ethnic communities living on both sides of the border.
He promised the existing problems would be dealt through diplomacy and reopening the border market.
Governor Abdul Ghani Faeq complained about the closure of common bazaars on the border and demanded their reopening.
Qari Faizur Rahman Attayee, director of foreign affairs for Badakhshan, said consular services had resumed in the province and visas were issued through the Sher Khan Bandar.
