GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Some blind people in southern Ghazni province have set up a trust fund to help the less fortunate visually-impaired individuals by providing them work opportunities.
Zakriya Sarwari, head of the trust fund, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The purpose of creating this fund is to help the blind people. The fund is ready and we are helping one another.
“We have also founded an organisation called Roshandelan, having 20 blind members, including 11 women,” he said. Each member contributed 250 afs a month, according to Sarwari, who explained the money was distributed to the blind to help them financially.”
Wazir Mohammad Dilsoz, another member of the organisation, deplored that the blind were considered a burden by families and society.
Founders of the fund want to eliminate the unpleasant culture from society and help the visually-impaired people.
Naheed, a blind female member of Roshandelan Organisation, said: “We don’t behave humanely with the disabled in our society -- just because they don’t earn. If supported, they will get work and play a role in helping their families.”
Disabled and Social Affairs Director Maulvi Mohammad Hanif Abu Khalid hailed the initiative, saying the fund might not resolve the problems of all special people. However, he hailed it as a step in the right direction for the blind people.
