KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban’s supreme leader has banned untrue allegations against officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA).

Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada said on Friday several Hadiths (sayings of the holy prophet) suggest that false allegations amount to lies and are worth punishing.

A statement from IEA spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid quoted the Taliban head as asking people and media outlets to implement the decree.

Akhundzada said Islam does not allow levelling of baseless allegations against officials. “There is no room for rumours in Islam because it leads to hatred among Muslims…”

Insulting religious scholars and government functionaries verbally, through body language or by any other means is inappropriate, according to the statement.

The Taliban leader once again directed IEA forces to enforce the general amnesty he had announced for ex-government officials last year.
