KABUL (Pajhwok): Residents of capital Kabul complain about prolonged power outages and accuse the Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) or power utility of disparate supply to the consumers.
Pajhwok Afghan News interviewed DABS consumers in Qala Zaman Khan, Khushal Khan, Kampany, Dashti Barchi, Karti Naw, Darul Aman, Chahar Qala Wazir Abad, Chihil Sotoon, Banaei, Hood Khel and Bagrami areas. Majority of the consumers complained about hours-long load shedding and their responses varied.
Zakia from Qalai Zaman Khan area said: “We face hours long load shedding in every hot summer which is problematic”. She called it unjust and claimed they were supplied electricity for eight hours in 24 hours. Zakia added one of her relatives who lived in Chahar Qala Wazirabd availed electricity for 22 hours.
However, Nesar Ahmad, a resident of Banaei area, did not complain about load shedding. He said they faced power outage in case of pylons’ destruction or other emergency.
But DABS spokesman Hikmatullah Maiwandi told Pajhwok: “Yes, some consumers experience load shedding and it is because of the drought. Less power is generate in the country and its consumption is high. So we import electricity.”
Maiwandi rejected unjust power supply to consumers, saying DABS supplied much of the power to governmental institutions and other companies during day time. He asked residents to avoid excessive use of electricity to avoid load shedding.
