QALAT (Pajhwok):  For the first time in the past 20 years, telephone and internet services have been launched in Nowbahar district of southern Zabul province.

Maulvi Abdul Hadi Yahya, Director of Zabul Telecommunications and Information Technology, told Pajhwok that Nowbahar district had been without telecommunication services for the past 20 years, with local residents facing serious problems.

He added that telephone and telecommunication services had just started in the district, which will bring convenience in daily life of the people and help them get rid of problems they faced earlier.

He said the Afghan wireless communication network had started services in the district and other companies would also start their services in the future.

According to him, Zabul’s Dai Chopan and Atghar districts are still without telecommunication services and they are trying to provide telephone and internet services to these districts.

The residents of Nowbahar district are happy that after 20 years, their district was brought under telecommunication coverage.

Jameel Ahmad, a resident of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News people would face problems during illnesses and other needs because they could not inform anyone on time and had to walk for kilometers due to lack of telecom services.

He said the problem had been resolved, but urged telecom firms to increase their antennas so that all areas could avail the facility.
