100 schools lack buildings in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): There are a total of 275 schools in central Logar province and 100 of them are without buildings where students are taught under the tent or open skies.

Provincial education department spokesman Shahpur Arab told Pajhwok Afghan News that the schools which lacked buildings were in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, and six districts. He said students and teachers faced numerous problems due to the lack of buildings.

He said the lack of school buildings had a negative impact on the education process, urging the government and aid giving agencies to construct standard buildings for the schools.

He said there were some schools buildings which could not be completed due to lack of budget in the previous government and the current government should complete them.

Nusratullah, a teacher of Pashtun Abad Middle School in Pul-i-Alam, told Pajhwok he taught his students under the sun in summer and rain in the tents.

He added that he had been promised many times that a proper building would be constructed for the school, but nothing happened so far. "The students attend classes in the tent. Often many students do not come due to the rain and heat."

Ahmad Faisal, one of the students of Al-Temor School in Pul-i-Alam, told Pajhwok that his school was without a building and the students faced many problems.

He said their school was closed on rainy days and as a result, every year because their lessons remained incomplete.

“I urge the Ministry of Education and aid giving agencies to construct structures for schools whose students are currently studying in the open."

Logar has 310 educational centers within the framework of the Department of Education, 275 of them are schools. As many as 150,000 boys and girls study in these schools.
