GHAZNI (Pajhwok):  Residents of southern Ghazni province complain about poor internet and voice call services in the province, saying the situation has badly affected their daily life activities.

Rahmatullah, a resident of Ghazni City, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the quality of internet and telephone service had recently weakened in the province, affecting people’s daily life activities.

He said people had to face serious problems because the networks did not work properly and people’s important works remained undone. “The internet is weak and we have climb to the rooftops for every WhatsApp message.”

He called on the authorities concerned to oversee the services of telecommunication networks and encourage them to provide quality services.

Mohammad Nasher, another resident of Ghazni city, also complained about the poor and low quality of telecommunication networks. “When someone wants to make a call, the connection is repeatedly cut off and when connected, the quality of the connection is poor. It is so bad that both sides do not understand each other’s words.”

He said in many areas of Ghazni there were no telecom services at all, but in areas where the services existed were of poor quality and the prices were high.

He lashed out at the government for charging 10 percent tax on telecommunication networks while not monitoring the services or fulfilling their responsibilities.

Noor Muhammad, another resident of Ghazni, said the arbitrarily transfer of money in internet packages by the telecommunication networks had concerned people.

He told Pajhwok: “No one is satisfied with the telecommunications services. Earlier, I used to activate 5GB of internet, it worked a lot, but now it doesn’t work even of one GB; Networks automatically transfer money in internet packages, when you add credit, you will not even know, some packages will be activated  and the credit will be transferred “.

Maulvi Abdul Wali, Director of Telecommunications and Information Technology of Ghazni, acknowledged the problems faced by people in the field of telecommunication services, but said efforts were being made to standardize these services.

He told Pajhwok that previously telecommunication networks were plagued by technical problems due to which their services were weak, but now work was ongoing to solve these problems and  improve the quality of telecom and internet services.

He said that efforts were underway to reactivate towers which had been destroyed during the war in Ghazni city and districts and with this measure many problems of the people would be solved.

According to him, 13 sites of Salam Telecommunication Network, three sites of Afghan Wireless Telecommunication Network in Ghazni city and some districts (Andar, Muqar, Qarabagh, Khogyani, Gilan, Nawa, Jaghori and Ajristan), three sites of Etisalat network and five sites of Roshan network will be activated.

Currently four private and one government telecommunication networks are operating in Ghazni and local residents are not satisfied with the quality of their services.
