ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Fake vaccines have been smuggled from Pakistan to eastern Kunar province as Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), a deadly infection that affects animals, has spread in the province.
Dr. Gul Rahman, an official of the provincial agriculture, irrigation and livestock department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that farmers should not buy the vaccines smuggled from Pakistan.
He said since last four months, the lumpy skin disease had spread in Kunar and it resulted in the death of many cows.
He told Pajhwok: “The fake vaccines brought from Pakistan have penetrated the Kunar market. One of the vaccines is named lumpy vaccine and it cannot benefit the animals.”
He said the issue had been shared with the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and it was expected that serious steps would be taken to address it.
Mohammad Asrar, a resident of Tesha village of Asadabad, told Pajhwok: “Four of my cows contracted the skin disease, and one cow died after a few days, currently I don’t know how to treat this disease.”
Malik Tawoos, a resident of Khas Kunar district, said two of his cows had died of the disease. He urged the government to provide awareness to the people about the disease and also take measures to control it.
Rahimullah Safi, a doctor at the provincial hospital, told Pajhwok the disease only affected animals not human beings.
