BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): A 60-year-old woman in central Bamyan province, having no breadwinner, is forced into begging from dawn to dusk in a bid to eke out a living.
The spouse of Arzo, hailing from the Punjab district of the province, died about 15 years ago.
“My husband, who had gone to Iran, got sick there because of hard work and finally died because about 15 years ago,” the woman recalled.
Following the death of her husband, the woman said, she lost her caretaker. Unable to work, she has no option but to beg on streets.
The woman added: “Being very old, I cannot do things needing physical strength. I have to knock at closed gates of donor organisations for assistance.”
She urged the government and donor agencies to address her financial problems at the earliest possible.
Mullah Ziaullah Khadim, director of rural development, said the needy people must have recommendation from local representatives so that donors could identify them.
