JALALABAD (Pajhwok): More than 50 public welfare projects have been completed in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province under the government’s food for work program.
The projects include construction of footpaths, roads and repair of bridges and cleaning of canals and rivers, which were completed in three months.
Nangarhar Agriculture and Livestock Director Maulvi Abdul Sattar Muhammad told Pajhwok Afghan News that 180 tons of wheat had been set aside for the projects in Sherzad district as per directives of the governor’s house.
He added that hundreds of residents of Sherzad district were provided work in exchange of wheat. He said 51 projects were completed in the district during the past three months under the food for work program.
Maulvi Muhammad said six roads and highways measuring 10 kilometers and 45 canals measuring 220 kilometers were repaired and cleaned during the period.
Malik Jafar, a tribal leader, told Pajhwok Afghan News the schemes provided work to hundreds of youth. He said in the past three months, various community projects were completed.
With completion of these projects, transportation and water problems of local residents have been solved to a large extent.
