FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The Public Health Directorate of northeastern Badakhshan province has registered 300 severe malnutrition cases during the last four months, when ten malnourished children died, officials said Thursday.
Doctor Ghulam Rabbani Mushtaq, a pediatrician at the Badakhshan provincial hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News that on average five to ten malnourished children were brought daily to the hospital for treatment.
Mushtaq added they admitted 300 severely malnourished children in the last four months and ten of them died.
Poverty, unemployment and not observing health hygiene are common reasons of malnutrition among children, Mushtaq said.
