ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Residents of northwestern Nimroz province are complaining about the increasing number of drug addicts and call for their collection and treatment.
Sayed Agha Barakzai, a resident of Zaranj, told Pajhwok Afghan News that after the fall of the previous government, the number of addicts in the provincial capital, Zaranj, had increased.
He called the increasing population of addicts worrisome, blaming the situation on poverty, unemployment and the return of migrants from Iran.
Sharifa Saad, another resident of Zarajn, told Pajhwok drug addicts in the city had become a challenge for people because most of them were involved in robberies.
“Our area has turned into a hub of addicts, a water pump was stolen twice this month and my husband always stay awake in night like a watchman,” she added.
Um Ikramullah (not real name), 22, a drug addicts who went to Iran for work last year, but got addicted to drugs there and returned to the country five months ago.
He said if treatment was provided to him, he would strive hard to quit the habit.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sayed Khalil Shah Kazemi, the head of the drug addicts rehabilitation center clinic, said there two were addiction treatment clinics in Nimroz and the clinic for women and children had 20 beds and the men 50 beds.
