US seen as less secure after pullout from Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States is less secure after its chaotic military withdrawal from Afghanistan, say two former security bosses.

Ex-commanders of Central Command Gen. Frank McKenzie and his predecessor, Gen. Joseph Votel made the assessment in an interview.

Voice of America quoted them as saying the complete pullout of US troops contributed to undermining Afghanistan’s safety.

"I do not believe we are safer as a result of our withdrawal from Afghanistan," McKenzie said, suggesting President Joe Biden should have kept around 2,500 troops in the country.

“I don't think we're more stable or safer. I think Afghanistan is more unstable and, as a result, this region is more unstable,” commented Votel.

Characterising the Doha Agreement as the "defeat mechanism" for the military mission in Afghanistan, he insisted the deal was a "deflating experience" for the Afghan government.
