FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A young boy and girl in the Kisham district of northwestern Badakhshan province have committed suicide, according to a local official on Thursday.
District Chief Samiullah Rasouli told Pajhwok Afghan News, two days ago a young boy and young girl from Namazgah Village committed suicide by drowning themselves in the Kokcha River and their bodies had not been recovered so far.
He said: “The girl was named Farida form baloch people, on the bases of old traditions her family engaged her to a boy against her consent, but she loved her cousin and have relation with him, after engaged to a strange person she invited her cousin to her house and both of them went to Kokcha River” he added.
According to him: “When Police from Pul-i-begum check-point gets aware of the case they go next to them and asked them to leave area but when the girl saw police with pistol she took the boy hand and jumped into the river.”
Rasouli said false traditions and family violence force the couple to commit suicide.
