KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 1860 Afghan refugees returned to the country from Iran yesterday, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said on Friday.
Of the returnees, 537 were expelled by authorities in Iran and 1325 returned on their own free will, the ministry said, citing information from the Refugee Affairs Directorate of Islam Qala port related to Herat province.
The ministry said 126 people from the returnees were introduced to the International Organization of Migration (IOM) office in order to receive aid.
According to the information of the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, 869 Afghans were forcibly expelled from Iran three days ago and 381 others returned to the country voluntarily.
About five million Afghans live in Iran and some three million in Pakistan.
