KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of Indian sugar has surged while Pakistani rice and Russian gold rates declined in Kabul markets during the outgoing week, market sources said on Saturday.
Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders’ Union, told Pajhwok Afghan News the wholesale rate of a 49-kilogram bag of Indian sugar rose from 3,250 afs to 3,300 afs.
He said the price of sugar had gone up in Pakistan and India as well.
He, however, added the rate of s 25.5 kilogram bag of Pakistani rice fell from 3,100 afs to 3,000 afs this weekend. The cut was linked to the arrival of newly-harvested rice in markets.
Price of some food items remained stable during the week, when the rate of a 49-kilogram sack of Kazakh flour remained unchanged at 2,650 afs. A16 litres tin of Malaysian cooking oil continued to cost 2,200 afs.
Similarly, one kilogram of African black tea stayed stable at 400 afs and one kilogram of Indonesian green tea at 350 afs.
There were slight differences in retail and wholesale rates of some commodities, the union leader pointed out.
Hamid Sufizada, a retailer in Dahna-i-Bagh locality, said the retail price of a 49-kg bag of Kazakh flour was 2,700 afs, a 24-kg sack of Pakistani rice 3,050 afs, a 49-kg bag of Indian sugar 3,350 afs, 16 litres of Malaysian cooking oil 2,250 afs, one kilogram Indonesian green tea 400 afs and the same quantity of African black tea 450 afs.
Russian gold price declines
Mohammad Javid, a jeweler in Lycee Maryam locality, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold was priced at 4,250 afs.
He, however, said the price of one gram of Russian gold declined from last week’s 3,400 afs to 3,300 afs.
He said change in the price of gold in Kabul markets was linked with the change in its price at international markets.
Fuel rates unchanged
According to the Ahmad Yar Group Pump Station, the price of one litre of petrol stayed unchanged at 85 afs while one lire of diesel also remained stable at 97 afs.
Mohammad Sharif, one of gas sellers in the Kalola Pushta neighbourhood of the capital, said one kilogram of liquefied gas cost 70 afs.
Currency rates
Haji Hussain, owner of the Sadaqat Money Exchange, said one US dollar accounted for 88.40 afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 390 afs in the Kabul money market.
Last week, one US dollar accounted for 88 afs and1,000 Pakistani rupees for 400 afs.
