5 of a family killed in Paktia roof collapse

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Five members of a family, including a woman, three girls, a child, have been killed as a result of roof collapse in southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Sunday.

Information and Culture Department director Khaliqyar Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident happened in the Balkhel area of Janikhel district on Saturday night.

He said a woman her three daughters and a child were killed in the overnight incident of roof collapse.

He said the house was damaged by recent floods with the roof of one room collapsed last night while some other parts of the house also demolished.

A local resident Bakht Mohammad said five members of a family were killed when the roof of a room collapsed on them.

“It is a tragic incident, we ask the government and donor agencies to support the family, he added.

He said flash floods had inflected huge losses on people in the district in last two months.

According to local officials, about 15 people have been killed and around 1,000 homes damaged by recent floods in the province.
