FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of Faizabad, the capital of northeastern Badakhshan province, are thrilled with the decline in the number of drug addicts in the city and ask officials to continue the process of rounding up addicts.

According to officials, more than 150 drug addicts, including women and children, have been collected and they are currently going through a rehabilitation process.

ShafiqullahHafeezi, the counter-narcotics director at Police Headquarters, told Pajhwok Afghan News more than 80 men and 70 female addicts had been rounded up from different parts of Faizabad City and were being provided treatment in the Faizabad Health Centre.

According to security officials, strict measures have been put in place to curb the sale of drugs. During the past government, children easily sold drugs in every part of the city.

Atiqullah, a resident of Faizabad, said he was thrilled with the launch of the drug addicts scheme and said in the past drug addicts were allegedly involved in two murder cases.

He demanded the continuation of the process of rounding up drug addicts and their rehabilitation.
