KABUL (Pajhwok): Nearly 1,000 vulnerable families have been distributed food and cash assistance in the Kabul, Maidan Wardak and Laghman provinces, officials said on Saturday.

Mullah Mohammad Abbas Akhund, state minister for Natural Disaster Management, said: “The survey of 1,000 families had been completed out of which 250 families were distributed aid today and the remaining would get the assistance in the future.”

Each aid receiving families was provided with 100 kilograms of wheat, and 100 kilograms of rice, he said. He said the assistance was provided from different countries.

Separately, 385 vulnerable families received food assistance in the Alishang, Alingar and Qarghayio districts of Laghman province, Qari Khair Mohammad Ghazi, head of the Natural Disaster Management Authority said.

The assistance was provided by the International Organisation of Migration (IOM), he added.

Elsewhere, the UNHCR provided cash assistance to some families affected by natural disasters and conflict in the central Maidan Wardak province.

Muzafar Shah, a UNHCR official, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “A total 347 homes were surveyed in Maidan Shahr and Narkh districts and will be provided aid in two phases.”

He said homes that are partially or totally damaged in past conflicts were eligible for the aid.

“197 homes were partially damaged and each family was provided $330,” he said.

“125 homes were totally damaged each family was provided with $550,” said Muzafar Shah.
