KABUL (Pajhwok): New British Prime Minister Liz Truss is all poised to assume office today (Tuesday), a day after she won the Conservative Party leadership battle.
She bagged 57 percent of member votes, the BBC reported, saying her predecessor Boris Johnson was formally resigning as premier today.
Scheduled to visit Balmoral in Scotland, where Truss will be formally appointed by the Queen as the 15th British prime minister.
Following her victory, the incoming PM promised tax cuts and dealing with the energy crisis and helping consumers.
After Truss’s appointment, Conservative party co-chairman Ben Elliot resigned. Kwasi Kwarteng may be appointed as chancellor, Suella Braverman as home secretary and James Cleverly as foreign secretary.
In Monday’s voting, Truss beat Rishi Sunak in the Tory leadership race. Priti Patel, who resigns as home secretary, may be replaced by Attorney General Suella Braverman.
