GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid on Tuesday said it was not yet known on whose orders and under what conditions girls' schools above sixth grade were opened in southeastern Paktia province.
Paktia Information and Culture director Khaliqyar Ahmadzai yesterday told Pajhwok that girls' schools above sixth grade were opened in the province at the request and insistence of the people and school principals
However, Mujahid told reporters in Kabul today that it was not yet known under what conditions and by whose orders the schools in Paktia were opened.
He added: "The Ministry of Education has to announce the start of school lessons. You mentioned Paktia, the matter is under investigation.”
He said it was an obligation to start lessons in all other provinces. “Once the permission is obtained and conditions are provided, the Ministry of Education will start the classes all over the country.”
He said they would look into the case in Paktia if it needed investigation and the information in this regard would be shared later.
Since March, girls’ schools above the sixth grade have been closed and the Ministry of Education has said it is working on a plan in this regard.
