PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has called for sustained engagement of the international community with the interim Afghan government to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar issued the call during a meeting in Islamabad with Markup Potzel, the acting head of UNAMA and the deputy special representative of the UN secretary-general for Afghanistan.
Khar also underlined the need for addressing the challenges facing Afghanistan on humanitarian and socio-economic fronts. She said Pakistan was doing its bit for a peaceful, connected and economically sustainable Afghanistan.
Commending Pakistan’s role in evacuation of workers of foreign embassies, international organisations, Potzel also shared his perspective on the evolving situation in Afghanistan.
He also called on Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood, who highlighted the importance Pakistan attached to a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. Constructive engagement with the Taliban administration was a must for promoting shared objectives of Afghanistan and the global fraternity, the Pakistani diplomat believed.
Potzel briefed the foreign secretary on the initiatives being taken by UNAMA under its mandate. Both sides renewed their commitments to promoting peace in Afghanistan.
